Being A Lion…
delivered by: Brian Gagne
Philippians 2:1-5
1 So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy,
2 complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind.
3 Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.
4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, (Philippians 2:1, ESV)
Be a Lion
Lions live in groups. Does anyone know what a group of lions is called? (Pride) There are male lions, female lions and little cubs. They’re not all related to each other, but they are family. They do all the things that make them a family but when it comes to everyday survival, they have specific roles:
Lionesses hunt and nurture cubs
Lions protect the pride from outsiders. Everyone has a job and if one of them doesn’t do their job, the Pride is weaker. They are vulnerable without each other.
Our team is the same - we’re not all related, but we are FAMILY. And God made us in a way that we must rely on each other. He says in His Word that we are one body but many parts. Each part has a role and a job and each one is important. No one carries this team alone and no one can succeed without the other.
Being a Lion doesn’t mean you roar the loudest! There are no rock stars on the Lions. Being a Lion means you’re part of the family - whether you’re pitching or in the outfield or on the bench - you have a job.
I read in Philippians “Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves.” That means for us, we celebrate when our teammates succeed and we encourage our teammates when they fail. That’s what family does that’s what it means to be a Lion.
